The GENIUS that is Geoffrey Chaucer: Greed

Geoffrey Chaucer; known as the “Father of English literature”, A GENIUS in every aspect of the word.

Geoffrey Chaucer is the author of “the Canterbury Tales” A collection of tales from pilgrims.  Out of these brilliant stories I would say that my favorite one would be “the Pardoner’s Tale” because of its plot. I’ve never been a real fan of reading. I’ve read books from time to time but didn’t really enjoy them. I was always a very picky reader but, this tale really caught my attention.

“The Pardoner’s Tale” is a story of three thieves trying to get bags of gold hidden under a tree and how their greediness got the better of them. Nowadays, I could safely say that “money makes the world go ‘round” because the essence of money is the way you’re categorized in society. Imagine yourself winning a million pesos in the lottery, wouldn’t that be great? Well that’s how the three thieves felt about the bags of gold. Greediness overcame them; they wanted it all for themselves. That’s why in the end death became them.

MONEY can turn you into anything, even into something you don’t like. These three thieves became murderers because of a few pieces of gold. They didn’t even care about their comrades as long as they became rich. And they all suffered the same fate; death.

I would say that this story is a masterpiece, a great read for any youngster or teenager who wants to grow up right. It has opened up my mind to a clearer view of how the world goes.
